Mushroom Information
Oyster Mushroom Potential Benefits
Oyster mushrooms are a very popular vegetable in Asia and are becoming more popular around the world as they are highly regarded for their nutrition. They are commonly found Korean, Japanese and Chinese cuisine.
Low in calories and fat, they are a good all-around consumable containing anti-oxidants, iron, protein, niacin, and are one of the few plant sources of vitamin D. They also contain magnesium, zinc, copper, potassium, folate, selenium, phosphours, vitamin C, betaine, beta carotene and riboflavin.
Get rid of bad cholesterol
The oyster mushroom may be useful for cutting triglycerides – a type of fat in the bloodstream – and bad cholesterol in the body. Calories are saved for the sake of energy when needed but if not required they can turn into plaque and spell trouble for the arteries.
Against Cancer
Oyster mushrooms may also help the fight against cancer. The results of the study in International Journal of Oncology in 2008 showed that the oyster mushroom extract can suppress the growth of colon cancer cells and breast cancer cells.
Boost the immune system
Oyster mushrooms contain a number of anti-biotic and amino acids. Anti-biotics are super-efficient and can attack the nests of bacteria in the body as well as viruses and parasites. Consuming mushrooms may be one way to boost immunity and help remove parasites from the body.
Fight anemia
Anemia or lack of red blood cells can be a problem with varying impacts. It is usually present in someone who may be lacking in iron and folate. Adding oyster mushrooms to your meal can boost iron and folate.
Controlling blood pressure
If you have high or irregular blood pressure, oyster mushrooms can potentially help stabilise it thanks to the rich content of potassium.
Relieve Constipation
Mushrooms contain 14% of your daily requirement of fibre and can potentially help with keeping you regular.
Reduces hyperacidity
Hyperacidity is a problem associated with excess stomach acid. Oyster mushrooms produce alkaline residue when they are metabolised by the body potentially helping to balance the acidity of the stomach.
